Opening ZIP files, playing video files, and other common problems.
When your download has successfully completed, the first thing you will notice is that it is a ZIP file. This is, of course, not a video file. The video file resides inside this ZIP file, and you will need to extract it to be able to view your selection in your media player. This is an easy task, and the software you will need to do so is provided below. If you're already familiar with the process, please skip to the next step.

Extracting the Video File
WinRAR is a free program that you can download, and install on to your computer. It will allow you to extract the video file from any type of archive, whether it be a ZIP (as all files on animePLUS! are), a RAR, or any other less used formats. Once installed, you can right-click on the ZIP file and select "Extract Here". The file will then extract to whichever folder you are in, and be ready for you to view!

Once you have extracted the video file, you will probably want to watch it! It is important to note that we do not recommend the usage of Windows Media Player, Real Player, Winamp, or Quicktime to view these files. Quite often you will run in to severe problems with these players that will prevent you from viewing the file at all. Also, it is important to note that no matter what configuration you have setup, you will need to download and install various codec files that make it possible for your computer to read, and the below video players to open, the video file. The following bit of information is very important for anybody downloading a file from animePLUS!, so please read it over.

Selecting a Media Player
VLC Media Player is the most highly recommended player. Windows, Mac, and Linux are supported.
Media Player Classic is also a good program, but not as recommended as VLC.

Once you have installed one of the above media players, you will probably not have any problems in viewing any file that is provided on the animePLUS! website. However, it is possible that certain encodings and file types will require additional codecs. Luckily, it is very easy to download, and install, these codec files on your computer to make EVERY file work.

Finding and Installing a Codec Pack
Combined Community Codec Pack is the best thing you could download. CCCP provides a huge number or features and options, including another media player, and every codec you could ever need to play any sort of obscure media file, whether it is your basic AVI, or the new MKV or MP4 file types. Download, install, and restart your computer. Files can still be viewed by using VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic, but Windows Media Player is still not recommended.

There are a few very common problems. Learn how to avoid them below.

The file has no video or sound! This usually happens when you try and play the file with Windows Media Player. Please download one of the players mentioned above, and use them instead. You could also install the codecs provided in CCCP, which may help you view the file with Windows Media Player, but you will still not be able to view MKV or MP4 files without VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic.    What is an MKV or MP4 file!? These new file types are becoming increasingly popular, and many people have problems with them. It is important to remember that these file types are NOT compatible with Windows Media Player, and you will need to use either VLC Media Player or Media Player classic to enjoy them. Also note that installing the codecs found in CCCP is an important step.
The MKV file has no subtitles! Some MKV files may use what is known as "soft subs", just like a DVD. If you don't see any subtitles on files you have downloaded from animePLUS! while using VLC Media Player select "Video" from the top menu, and then "Subtitle Tracks". You should be able to select subtitles, if not, please contact support with the name of the file you were trying to view.
The ZIP file is corrupt! We are very determined to provide the best service possible, and that involves the testing of every file we place on the animePLUS! website. It is unlikely the ZIP file is actually corrupt, however, rarely this error can be caused by your connection with our servers being dropped. This can be prevented by using a download manager capable of resuming your downloads. If, however, you are sure there is a problem with the actual ZIP file, please do contact support with the name of the file you were trying to view. We will be glad to look in to it, and in the event that an error has been found with the actual file, we will happily credit you any used bandwidth.
